I have lived in the midwest, Kansas, Missouri and soon to be Oklahoma all of my 65 years and have never seen a tornado. I do have a healthy respect for their strength and the damage they can do so I take shelter when needed. You can't live in fear no matter what part of the country you reside in.

. is it safe to live in Oklahoma with tornadoes?
Personally I wouldn't live WITH a tornado...they're messy, unpredictable and prone to hurting you and breaking your stuff...they make terrible roommates!

That said, I've never met one myself, but apparently one touched down a few seconds behind me and I never noticed until someone told me...it must've been tiny. That was in CO though.

I've seen one. I saw the May 3, 1999 F5 tornado out my back window. Other than that, I haven't seen them. Most tornadoes that hit OKC are weak tornadoes that will tear up roofs, damage cars, etc. The catastrophic tornadoes like May 3, 1999 are rare.

I had a friend who took a tornado in as a pet, that was a big mistake! Not only was it messy, unpredictable and destructive but it kept her up all night, with it's freight train and jet engine like noise. She had to take it out to the country and let it go. She was pretty tore up about it, but knew it was best for the both of them.

No matter how cute they are, they are wild and should never be taken in as pets.
