We are getting stationed to Tinker AFB and moving to the area in a couple of weeks. We're looking to rent a house nearby. What are the best areas to live close to the base?

Without knowing your budget, Tinker is easy to get to from pretty much all surrounding areas. I-40 runs adjacent and I-35 is just off Tinker.

Surrounding towns are Midwest City, Del City, Norman, Choctaw, and Oklahoma City. Midwest City is considered the home of Tinker.

Midwest City is strange, not the people but you can be on one side of the street and its a really nice area and right across could be a real ghetto neighborhood.... the nicest areas are probably south of Reno Ave.... and Douglas Blvd and East of Douglas Blvd.... alot people will say moore area.... its not too bad of a commute.....Moore east of I-35 is closer and from what I've seen its older and West of I-35 is new and more developed.....I like MWC because its like 8min(on the highway) away from downtown and Im downtown alot but many people will tell you its ghetto and horrible...it has its parts but its not all that bad..... If you like the country feel but still not far from the city then Choctaw is good.... I actually have seen a few decent houses for rent in MWC (midwest city) lately so they are out there.....

I have to agree about our neighbor hoods are weird like that. Midwest city has gotten a little rough the last few years, you would probably enjoy living in OKC better.
