We're buying a new house in the Huntington Addition, near SE 44th and Choctaw Road. Cox Cable has TV and internet but not telephone. ATT has no Uverse and no telephone (IAW the website). I don't know anyone who lives in the addition. I can easily find out who doesn't serve the area...how do I find out who DOES? We're old dinosaurs and don't want to depend on a cell phone.

Thanks.

Hate to inform you, but the friends I have over that way use their cell phones only.

I understand the concern though. It can seem risky. The Ol' Lady and I felt that way when we made the switch to cell service only.

These days you can get unlimited calling on cell phones, and they have the advantage of being taken anywhere, these days, all have GPS in case you call 911, they can find you.

I haven't had a landline in years.

now if you insist on not getting a cellphone and want a landline then I suggest Magic Jack. It works over the internet and has a phone jack, and is cheaper than a landline. Here's a link:

Some older, but more savvy, friends use Magic Jack, so we might change to that if this little local phone company doesn't work out. We have a cell phone with Sprint but we get little or no signal inside the house...gotta do something about that when we ever settle down from this move.

I have an ol' church friend who uses Magic Jack and he likes it. I guess it's relatively fault tolerant.
