Places like Austin, Denver, Portland, and Seattle have skyrocketing real estate prices because they are desirable and people want to live there.
I agree with OKC and Austin being total opposites, but OKC has come such a long way in the last 20 years, you would almost swear it was a different city. It really looks like OKC is moving in the right direction, with a practically new downtown, great entertainment options and an economy that seemed to weather out the latest oil bust.

The reason real estate is so cheap, is because there's so much of it, and it's easy to develope and to add infrastructure.

Yup, Edmond, Moore, Norman, Nichols Hills, Deer Creek are the ONLY decent cities to live in. But even in those cities you're NOT immune to being a victim of crime. When I was visiting my mom in Edmond several years ago, My rental car had a break in her drive way

When I lived in Norman 10 years ago, my SUV was stolen by drug addicts

Never in my life have I lived in a city were even the NORTH side can be dangerous !!!, Caugh Caugh 122ND/PENN

I have lived in Los Angles, Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco and NEVER a victim of crime in those cities!!!
Just only in Oklahoma

^ And there are lots of great neighborhoods within OKC that are great to live in.

I lived in Norman for 5 years and now in OKC for 2 years and have never been a victim of crime.

The city of OKC itself has grown by 10.1% (just slightly more than Portland's 9.6% for comparison) in population from 2010-2016, 15th out of the country's largest 50 cities, far from "nobody wanting to move here" and "a place people don't seek".

People move to OKC for work. But I've never heard of a single person who can move anywhere (say a trust fund kid or someone who can work from home) purposely moving to OKC. Okc simply isn't a desirable place unless you grew up in Vinita or Idabel.

Wrong !!!!

I'm sure there are MANY people out there in the USA who want to move to a backwards minded state with
year round "PMS" weather. HORRIBLE roads, 1 million drug addicts, Poor Schools, Moron inbreds for a Governor/Law makers, 100,000 Churches/casinos and dirty nasty lakes

I'm really getting suspicious that you are one person with multiple accounts made just to trash OKC. I really hope you aren't who I think it is. Get a life dude. I'm here from Los Angeles, I have an apartment in Hollywood, room in Maui, and an apartment near the Fishermans Warf in SF. I have extensively explored NYC and am moving there in 3 years for school. I have talked to so many people from these places who love OKC. I am here now visiting and I'm loving it. I am no stranger to trash talking Oklahoma but you are a moron.

Kaynemo will own your asses by refuting your claims and always crickets on your side. Quite frankly, I am really surprised the moderators allow this garbage. I post on so many other site and never have I seen such an intolerance for one city by so many posters. It is very strange. For this reason alone, City Data is one of my least favorite sites because anytime something about OKC is posted, you can almost be assured that Atlanta fanboy and a few others(including one whom I'm not naming out of respect as we used to be friends but you know who you are) will be here to post bs opinions presented as facts and whenever someone calls you out you are never able to back up anything you say.

Whatever possessed you to think that Oklahoma City Oklahoma was the next " New Austin Texas ".

Thinking off the top of my head ....

I would say there are three cities that may be the (New Upcoming Austin Texas.).

Drum roll please , and they are in order

1. Asheville North Carolina

2. Raleigh North Carolina

3 . Tucson Arizona

Free thinkers , very strong art communities , strong University towns pushing a very Progressive agenda.

LMAO off your meds bud ??, I just have 1 account, 1 ACCOUNT !!! . Let me ask you this, are you a minority or Caucasian?? If no, Have you EVER dealt with racism ?? Have you lived in OKC area for more than a year ??

If you can't answer yes to ANY of those questions, then you are the MORON !!

Everyone has a different experience living ANYWHERE in the US or in the world I'm just sharing MY personal experience and views of Oklahoma, THAT'S ALL !! As most people in that dump of state don't like to talk about, ("Sweeps the dirt under the rug") and put a nice flower pot over it

Just like you I have lived in SF, Seattle, Chicago. ALL those cities have there issues, But NONE compare to the "STOOPID" B.S I saw and dealt with in Oklahoma !!! It takes the CAKE in B.S !!!

My point and goal is to HELP people not make the same mistake of living in Oklahoma like I did.
NO human being should go through the same horrors I did "prison sentence" of living Oklahoma
