Looking forward to getting to know OKC better.

Also, please do alert me to anything I should avoid, as all cities have those.

Default Trip canceled

Hi. Well I thought it over and came to the conclusion that if there was not one person on the forum that cared to encourage me to see the things you find most appealing, that perhaps my time spent in OKC would not be very hospitable or enjoyable.

I realize my post was not an important one, but I was hoping for some help from those that I thought would know the city best. (instead of those chamber brochures)

Thanks

I'm surprised someone from the OKC area didn't answer your question. I live in Tulsa but lived in OKC back when Hell was a campfire, so I will answer the best I can. I enjoy Bricktown when I go to OKC. A lot of folks on here call it a tourist trap, and maybe it is, but you would be a tourist so it should be just right form you. Bricktown is on the SE part of Downtown, easy to walk around and a pretty safe and clean area.

If you are going through Tulsa, I would suggest Philbrook Museum of Art.

You would really cancel a trip for that reason? Just because people on one of the less active forums don't respond? I saw you did the same thing in the Kansas City forum, posting the same vague question and the exact same response when no one answered it. That just seems silly to get your feelings hurt over it enough to cancel. In the future, you might want to say what it is you like to do, or try a site like Wikitravel, which covers cities most travel guide books won't if there isn't a market for it.

wow, that's kind of odd to cancel your trip because of that. OKC and Oklahoma in general isn't the most popular section of this site and I'd encourage you to search up local forums first such as OKC having OKCTalk or Tulsa having Tulsa Now.

If you should decide later on to come to Oklahoma City, check out Cattleman's Steakhouse.

I didn't make a post because of figuring someone would just come in and contradict whatever I said would be interesting to see.

If you aren't visiting family or friends in a particular city, the info found in brochures are usually good enough.

OKC is like any other town. We have the same downtown attractions - bars and eateries, sport teams, Chinatown/Asian District, etc.

Something new is the food truck pavilion called Blue Garten that's kinda cool (search for website). Outdoor plays at the Myriad. Chicken and waffles and more at Waffle Champion (for you carnivores, lol).

Avoid the casinos. No one is really winning.

Yes, I was planning a trip northward from OKC through Tulsa and on to KCM.

How vague is it to ask for insight into someone's community. I have found in traveling that promotional material does not always cover what is best about a city.

My feelings were not hurt, I was disappointed. I did not want to risk not having a good time on this trip, I needed the get-away. So I went southward, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio. I have spent a lot of time in Texas in my life and always enjoy those trips.
I had simply decided to seek out new (to me) territory. (except KCM)

I do intend to try this trip again, but not particularly in the hope/expectation of any forum member help. I will plan farther ahead. I actually travel quite a lot, so I do understand that it may have sounded lame.

I do appreciate those who offered positive feedback (you know who you are, thanks), and apologize to those I annoyed.

PS: I did not post my interests because the trips were about the cities not me. I wanted insight.

Yes, but I could ask the same question in New York and have people recommend catching a Yankee's game or eat at Applebee's in Times Square. I wouldn't do either because neither one of those activities interest me. I would rather take in the architecture of the city and the global offerings in its dining scene than do something someone else likes. I stand by my statement that your interests were too vague. You could eat at nothing but chains here, or try independent places visitors would overlook. Unless you specify, you won't get better examples.
