On the 35th anniversary of the Mt. St. Helens eruption (May 18, 1980), it is worth noting that the ashfall that fell the furthest east was in mid-Oklahoma. Congrats!

Also, I know it is probably old news, but does anyone find it ironic that Kevin Durant is now doing commercials for "Sonic" drive-in?

Hey this post was meant for fun, nothing more.

Yes, I know that, and they are now in Washington State. And the commercials with Kevin are airing.

The fun irony is that OK-based Sonic's menu includes a SuperSonic burger, what I think the OP's getting at.

Well, sorta. My original post mentions that the furthest ashfall from Mt. St. Helens occured in mid-Oklahoma. I'm sure scientists can find this even today and it is a part of Oklahoma's geologic history.

As for Sonic, it was just a passing remark. Kevin Durant doing commercials for "Sonic" in Washington State is certainly irony. Not much more to add to that, except I find the food at Sonic to be less than great, IMO, but it is my understanding their drinks drive the franchise. Plus the unique layouts, that take some back to the 50's. I live within a mile of one in my current WA State location. I tried a grilled chicken sandwich, and was not impressed. Just my opinion.

I can remember the ashfall from St Helens in 1980 in central Oklahoma. I remember the sky was gray for about 3 days with a fog like haze of gray. I have a memory of walking out of a grocery store in Edmond, Oklahoma that May and being amazed that the stuff we were seeing in the air came all the way from Washington.

As for Sonic. I don't care for the food either except for the breakfast stuff which isn't bad. However, our "Sonic" drive inn predates the SuperSonics franchise by a few years.

And Kevin Durant doing commercials? Anything to provide relief from the "two idiots in the car" commercials.

But Sonic's half price shakes after 8PM during the summer is sure worth it. I hope they do it again this summer.
