We will be moving to Edmond in the near future from CO and am wondering if we need to be concerned about buying a home that faces North? (We learned the hard way here in Colorado !

No, I would not worry about your house facing north. I lived in them here for years with no particular problem.

For the record everyone, they are worried about buying a house facing north because of the snow and ice issues (it takes forever to melt.) Don't consider it at all when you're buying a house in Edmond. You will already have a snow shovel (maybe even a blower) you can forget the blower but keep the shovel. You may use it two or three times a year, even in Oklahoma it can take a while to melt on the north side.

Our Edmond house faces South and therefore our back door is North. An advantage of our South facing home is that the ice melts faster off of the walk ways. Our lawns are greener faster and last longer on our side of the street too. Plus, I prefer to utilize going through the garage to check the mail and take the trash out extra in bad weather. That way I can leave my wet and dirty shoes in the garage rather than tracking them onto my clean tile floor. Down side, our master bedroom faces North and it is the coldest room in the house, despite a efficient and new heating system (in our newer home). I wouldn't want to live with a home facing East and West...seems like it would warm your house too much in the summer months. Just my unscientific opinions.

south facing sounds the best to me. our house is e/w and the north side sure gets FRIGID with the okie winds in the winter. Even with a fence along that side of the house, it is still cold.

and i noticed most north sides of houses here tend to turn green fairly easy if you have too much shade. something to consider, but snow should not be a concern here.

Buying a home that faces north will cause issues when it does snow or there is an ice storm. Our home faces north and because of the way the sun moves it takes FOREVER to melt. Now, that's good news for the kids because they get to play longer but for me... not so much.

I would typically avoid buying a home that faces north if nothing else because of the extreme cold that blows in the winter. Our home does deal with heating issues and it's a direct result of this.

Hope this helps

I always like a house that faces north here in OK because then the sun doesn't shine in your front windows. Your back yard is more pleasant in winter too.
