Your husband an officer or enlisted? Most of the personnel at Vance who are military are officers, either as students or instructor pilots, it has always had a very unbalanced ratio of officers to enlisted. The only real jobs for enlisted are air traffic control, security, and mission support. Also the base clinic is military. The great preponderance of personnel are civilian, Vance has had civilian contract maintenance since the very early 1980s.

As for military in Edmond, they would be from mostly Tinker, but just like Vance the majority of personnel at Tinker are civilian contractors associated with the ALC. The military side is represented by the AWACS wing and the Reserve tanker wing. The Oklahoma Air National Guard moved back to Will Rogers a couple years ago.

He might have a mileage restriction, depending on the commander and 1st Sgt. Generally, for anyone with a mobility position, that's ~one hour / 50 miles.

That is likely not doable from Stillwater.

If you work in Education, Edmond is the place to be.

OSU is bigger than CSU. What it all boils down to is which is most desired? A slightly shorter commute or much shorter drives to big city attractions. Once can't choose both.

It helps to be a big OSU fan. One person I knew of at one time commuted from the far north side of Stillwater to work at Ponca City, in order to be close to OSU. The drive to Ponca City was a little over 35 miles.

I think Edmond allows you to access other Higher Ed jobs a little bit easier. Ones at the capitol or ones at some of the other Universities in the metro.

In Stillwater you've got OSU and I suppose you could work at Langston if you lived there as well.

That being said, there are a lot perks to raising your family in a major D1 college town like Stillwater that are unique and desirable

Nevertheless, many people find Stillwater absoultely unacceptable as a place to live in, due to the deplorable lack of good shopping and restaurants. For starters, Stillwater has no enclosed mall. Children and adults complain about nothing to do. Not everybody wants to go see OSU play sports. Not everybody is going to like driving an hour to the OKC or Tulsa area just to find a cool place to have dinner.

I just drove from west Edmond to Enid yesterday. Took about 70 minutes to get to Vance from HWY 74 and Covell.
