If the NBA put an expansive team in Tulsa how would the people in OKC feel about having two sports teams in Oklahoma?

The NBA would never put a team in Tulsa with the current demographics of Tulsa and OKC. But if they did it would be great. Seems to me that the Thunder and Mavs have never really gotten as heated as we might have expected. An OKC vs Tulsa rivalry would certainly develop in a big way.

Back when both OKC and Tulsa had minor league hockey the ice rinks in both cities would have huge crowds for those games and the players got into the rivalry. It was a lot of fun. OKC's Alphie O'Hanrahan was always playing dirty tricks on the Tulsa players. He was a local hockey hero in OKC for that alone.

Mavs vs Thunder is kinda like a playoff rivalry the mavs beat y’all in 2011, then they met the following year and OKC swept them, then in 2016 OKC had a Gentleman’s sweep, But there’s been moments when Russ and JJ got into it in the regular season, then in the 2016 playoffs I think Charlie V said something to Russ then after the game Russ and KD was roasting him.

Honestly though, I would have thought that the OKC-Mavs thing would have been a lot bigger thing that it is. I don't get the impression from the OKC fan side of things that the Mavs have been anything special. Rather it seems like Thunder fans get more fired up for teams that have been thorns in the Thunders side for a specific season. And of course they hated the Warriors when Durant was there. I remember a couple of seasons ago, the Nuggets were the big enemy. I can remember when it was the Spurs the Rockets. Even Memphis some years back.

Not saying that the OKC Dallas rivalry doesn't exist but that it really has never really captured the city vs city fever pitch that I thought it would. And I'm saying that from the OKC side. Dallas has always had the big rivalries with the other Texas teams. So even they only have so much time and energy for the Thunder.

If they met more often in the post season or were both very good at the same time it might be different. Seems like one is good or its the other.

Very good observation. That is true. Perhaps it will happen one of these years but the Thunder better not blow it with their draft picks or trades or they aren't going to be on any team's rival list.

The odds are 100 to 1 of Tulsa getting Major League Sports, it turned down expanding TU Staduim ,MLS wanted a team in Tuls a team back then.

Blackballed MLS

NBA/WNBA Blackballed

USFL Team Folded No NFL

NHL Won't go into Area rejected by NBA

MLB 81 Home games with 25,000-50,000 Fans

Maybe if OKC had 3 million people in it's metropolitan area and Tulsa 2 million, but given the current population/demographics of the state and the two cities, Oklahoma is lucky to have the Thunder.

Absolutely, and even then population is no guarantee. San Diego (#8 rank in population) lost their Clippers to LA. Jacksonville (#13) and Columbus (#14) also lack NBA teams.

An NBA team for Tulsa (#48) would be an insult to Austin (#11), an hour south to the Alamo and the Spurs.

It would also be akin to Tucson (#33) getting a franchise with PHX 90 minutes to the north. There are a lot larger metros that might support a franchise. Like Seattle (#18), still smarting from their loss/OKC's gain, and KC/Omaha, who used to host the Sacramento Kings. The ranks I have posted are for the city itself, if the MSA (metro) is used, Tulsa drops down to #54.

Thanks to the Census website for the city ranks.
