Hi we have some questions before we decide if OK city is right for us.
Is the Weather horrible? We have heard that it rains lots and the tornadoes and warnings are daily?
Are there any discounts on property taxes for seniors and veterans?
We read that every county in the state voted for Trump are there any liberals living in OK?
Do homes have basements?
What are the worst bugs?
Sorry for all the questions.
Thanks in advance

It's very hot during the summer, too. Winters might have an ice storm or several snow storms of under 6 in. But warnings are not daily. So, the weather doesn't stay terrible. But if you want a cool summer and a warm winter, don't come.

If you are a senior, you can apply for a freeze on your property taxes.

Some homes have basements, but they are not common.

Oklahoma City has the most liberals. Trump barely won Oklahoma County in 2020.

The worst bugs are mosquitoes, flies and brown spiders. There might be ants and wasps. At least the bugs are not nearly as bad as they are in Florida.

The weather is volatile but not "horrible" and for the most part the tornado thing is in the spring and early summer. No there aren't tornado warnings "daily" although they do test the sirens frequently. I'd say OKC gets a serious weather threat about three times a month in March, April, May to where it might require your attention. The rest of the year it's just thunderstorms there and again. It doesn't rain that much comparatively speaking.

It seems worse than that because the TV weather stations cover the entire state and usually in spring there is some activity somewhere in the state so they are out covering it even if it is 200 miles away from OKC. Plus the weather people overdramatize the threat. A lot of times the tornadoes never form, they don't go to the ground or they don't last very long.

Hail is an issue at times so it's good to have a garage but not completely necessary.

As Stilly mentioned there are discounts on property taxes, income taxes, and rebates on some other stuff for seniors.

As with any city, the closer you get to the core the more liberals you will find. Very few in the suburbs of OKC except for Norman (University of Oklahoma).

No basements unless you have a really old home. Water table is too high, frost line is not low enough. Basement are problematic for people who have them.

Bugs can be bad but are worse if you live near water or if you live in a naturally wooded area. They are also bad when it is hot and humid (May and June).

Tornadoes, constant wind, ice storms, snow storm, wild fires, flash floods and major droughts. Google Oklahoma Weather Records. Be prepared for power outages. There were water issues 2021/2022.

Go to the site of the respective county tax assessor's site to view available discounts.

How do you tell whose political party someone is affiliated with or tending towards?

Old and odd ones.

That is a personal issue. OK has the usual ones - spiders, roaches, crickets, scorpions, not so much fire ants.

Groceries are high, finding medical providers may be difficult depending on your insurance, roads are in bad shape, car tags are inexpensive but insurance makes up for it, utilities are hit or miss (mine almost doubled 2022), car centric (public transport basically downtown/universities), as many CBT shops as beauty shops and churches, some inventory of lower end single family homes but also an influx of crime in some areas.

DFW is basically the same just warmer summers and higher property taxes/prices.
