Just so you know. Locks of Loves charges outrageous amounts of money for wigs made from the hair you donate. I friend of mine was going through Chemo and tried to get one. She about choked on her popcorn when they told her how much they were going to charge her. I think its a bad idea all around to charge somebody for something that was donated to people like them in the first place.

From what I've read on the Locks of Love webside, their focus is children. This is a paragraph from their website where cost is mentioned:

"...Our mission is to return a sense of self, confidence and normalcy to children suffering from hair loss by utilizing donated ponytails to provide the highest quality hair prosthetics to financially disadvantaged children. The children receive hair prostheses free of charge or on a sliding scale, based on financial need."

Also keep in mind that Locks of Love will only donate to kids who have permanent hair loss - like from alopecia - not temporary hair loss from chemo or other medical treatments. I don't recommend them to any of my patients any longer...I usually recommend the Pantene program.

I wish more folks realized this about Locks of Love. Locks of Love has more money being spent on public relations and advertising I suspect that why people know more about it.

I don't regret my donation to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program! Of course, I loved my initial hair donation haircut so much that I just kept getting my hair cut a little shorter each time! So I haven't let it grow out again yet. Plus, I actually fix my hair rather than wearing it up in a ponytail.
