True, but it's also possible to use multiple collective nouns in a sentence, in which case they still takes a plural verb.

Still picky!

I appreciate good grammar skills as much as anyone, but was it really necessary to attack the OP?

I guess it could be taken as pretty harsh treatment, but with grammar that poor, and it being their first post it almost seems like they were asking for it/trolling.

In addition to that, they were advertising, which is against the Terms of Service.

I think it was sometime around 1990, on a wildcat dial up bulletin board that had one modem at 300 baud that I learned that typing in all caps is not considered polite. If someone walked into my office and started yelling, all while whining about not getting work or not being able to get a job, I doubt I would be all that polite to him. I ran a construction related service business back in the early 80's. We sold and serviced garage doors in the oil patch of New Mexico. I had a fundamental employment policy: If you can't spell the job you are applying for, you don't get hired. Grammar and spelling are essential to effective interaction between humans. In a medium where ONLY grammar, spelling, and capitalization (the basic rules of the English language) are visible, and their usage expresses the thought process and ideas generated by the poster, I consider those rules absolutely essential elements of a conversation.

Perhaps we were a bit harsh, but believe it or not, I really do not enjoy being distracted by the medium when I try to decipher a message. And if you are going to petition a new group to provide assistance, the least you could do is be on your best behavior. I'm over 60, I am a cranky old f**t, and I don't have time to put up with pups that are rude and unintelligible.

Besides, we did him a favor. He now knows to not type in all caps and that spell check can be your friend.

Not picky enough to proofread, apparently!

"they still take a plural verb."

Did anyone bother to answer the OP's question about where is all the work gone?

My answer would be, it done went and got done. It was too durn cold to work last week, but now it's done warmed up again. So just sit a spell and cool your jets. Next thing you knowed, it'll get busier than all get out.

Should be a lot of work once the ice melts. Have you driven through Hooterville lately?

For the most part, I agree with you and GP, but I've also known a few very talented mechanics and heavy equipment operators who were severely dyxlexic. They were bright and capable, but just ask them to read almost anything, and forget it. One of them I worked with when I worked at a high school. He had permission for me to read his tests to him, and for me to transcribe his answers. His sister had read the texts and assigned reading materials to him, and his grasp was exceptional. He just couldn't read them himself, nor could he write what he could verbalize. I'm more inclined to give a person the benefit of that possibility [other than the all CAPS thing, that is really annoying] rather than assume he is just illiterate.
