My husband and I moved to OKC a year ago and rented in Moore. It was fine for the first year but we wanted something different. Neither of us are fans of the suburbs and have started looking to buy a house. We would like to be in Oklahoma City and have found a place we love in the 3000 block of NW 27th in OKC. We are fully aware that the no place in the city will be as safe as where we were living in Moore, we also know that we woud like to be in a city and raise our someday kids around some culture and allow them to meet people different then ourselves. We have done research and talked to to neighbors who said they have heard of crime but not lots of it and that they feel safe. Can anyone give me their opinions on whether or not this is a safe place for our foster children and someday actual children? Does anyone live near this area? Thanks

The NW area is pretty good.
I love it here. :]
If you want a smaller city in oklahoma city you could try piedmont.
Or Deer Creek.
Their both minutes from the city with a country feel.

Thanks- we want the city atmosphere above all else. We actually have sacrificed SF and an extra bathroom to get it. The neighborhood was very cute and some houses were well maintained but others were not as much so it was hard to gage.

Default Resources to check

You might want to check out the crime statistics on OKNews website. It's the website for the Daily Oklahoman and some television station here in town that I don't watch--nor, might I add, do I read that newspaper.

Take the info you get from that website with a lot of salt, though. In my case, I used it to check out a neighborhood for a house I was considering buying. I was pleased that the web site showed no serious crime for the prospective neighborhood. I then bought the house and discovered about 6 months later from a police officer (and later some neighbors down the street) that a murder had been committed on my front lawn. Fooled me, huh?

So, if you don't want any nasty surprises maybe you should (a) check that website and then before you decide to make an offer on the house (b) check with the local cop-shop and see whether any major crimes have been committed on the property itself.

In the end it is the crime rate that you are probably more concerned about. People die in houses all the time and shouldn't affect your decision. Just a word of caution is all I am offering and best of luck on your decision.

Good neighborhood. Just don't leave anything in your car that you don't want stolen. Also don't lock your car doors. That way you won't have to keep replacing the broken windows.

Two blocks west of Northwest Classen High School. (I'm about two miles from there.) This is, if I remember correctly, the Ingleside addition to OKC; it dates back to the 1920s. It's a handy location - nothing is all that far away.
