Hello

I will be traveling to OKC some time this summer.

Is it fairly safe for me to travel alone? I don't plan on doing anything at night, there's just a few things I want to see/do during the day.

I think my boyfriend will be coming with me, but in case he bails or has to stay home for work, will I be ok by myself?

Thanks.

I moved here when I was 25 and have always felt completely comfortable by myself.
You shouldn't have any problems at all.
Enjoy your visit!

Um, kinda. I'm from just outside Atlanta. I don't go into the "city" unless I just have to. I'd actually LOVE to move out there, but I have a job where I'm at and can't just up and move with the fear of "no jobs" like it is.

You might want to visit some of the local churches. I found that it's a good way to make friends if you are new to an area. They will advise you how to steer clear of any trouble in the area and very often have people that will help you settle in and call on you to be sure you are OK. I recommend First Southern Baptist at 6400 S. Sooner. I was baptized in their old building on 29th St. and attended the very first service an their 6400 S. Sooner location.

I also have very fond memories of a church singles group that met every week at someone's house on the NW side of OKC. I think the group was sponsored by a Christ Community Church but it wasn't a bible study group. The guest entertainers would generally be musicians, talk show hosts, magicians, professional athletes, writers, etc. They also had outings with hay rides, BBQs, hikes, restaurant gatherings, etc. Single people from all over the area attended. We would often pack close to 100 people into the house gatherings.

Yeah, never really experienced any other large cities other than Atlanta. I guess I've been kinda sheltered in that respect. So I'm really lookin' forward to takin' this trip 'out west' with my boyfriend and seeing some new things.

Thank you, that's excellent advice I'll remember if I ever get the chance to move. But I'm afraid this trip will be too short to visit any churches.

Well, that's why I was askin' if I'd be ok by myself. I'm quite happy doing things by myself, but understand some times its not safe. Who knows if we'll even be together then? *shrug*

I lived on OKC for four years and never found any place that I felt unsafe during the daytime. It is different at night but things may have changed since I was there. Generally, I find that areas near bus stations have a lot of drugs and crime.
