What's with all the earthquakes lately? (Tulsa, Stillwater: tornado, earthquake, live)

I have felt two earthquakes in the last 3 hours here at Tinker AFB with epicenters around OKC and Del City. I read about a few small earthquakes last month in the eastern part of the state. I've lived here my whole life and never felt an earthquake until today. I've always know that we can get small scale earthquakes here in Oklahoma, but it seems as though they are abundant lately!!!

You know, I was just telling a friend about that the other day. We do get lost of earthquakes in Oklahoma, but usually they are so small they arent felt. Lately it seems as if there has been a rash of earthquakes that are large enough to be felt. More so than I have ever noticed in the news.

I remember watching a film many years ago on earthquakes. It showed a map of Calfornia and overlaid red dots of different sizes according to the size of the earthquake. They did a time lapse thing. You saw this steady kind of up and down trickle of dots appearing here and there, but then right before a really big earthquake, there was a sudden uptick of dots, an "explosion" of dots, then BOOM the big one. So when it appears that there are a lot of earthquakes, more than usual in an area. It makes me wonder.

Same here. I tell everyone that Oklahoma really does get a lot of earthquakes, obviously not large enough to be felt most of the time. But yes it seems lately within the past few months we've had many large earthquakes. It is very weird. There can only be one explanation: Global Warming.

lol global warming causes everything you know...... Tulsa Artist, I think you're theory is really plausible. I wonder where the big one will hit??

In Stillwater, we're more likely to have a tornado than a feelable earthquake.

I heard that it was from an oil company doing a waterflood too aggressively and the water and oil is causing the earth to shift.

Its kinda wierd how its like just recently how were starting to feel them. Hopefully they dont ever get really large. haha

Like I said before New Dominion has converted an old oil field into a water flood oil field meaning they are pumping water deep into the ground pushing oil up. This can cause the faults to be lubricated causing them to shift causing earthquakes.

That is what I think is causing them, because the time lines match.

I feel like there have been so many earthquakes and tsunamis everywhere around the world in the last five months or so. I have no idea of why it's happening, but it's something that we all have to wait and pray that everyone is going to be okay.
