I am wanting to watch a few kids during the day while my boys are at school...any suggestions on the best place to advertise?
Thanks,
Krissy

Church bulletins, craigslist, your local weekly or monthly newspaper...

My friend does this and she only advertises in our little local paper. This way she gets parents who either work nearby or live nearby. You should get the word out at your children's school and among the parents you know. My friend gets most of her kids by word of mouth through the parents of the kids she already watches, or has watched.
Be sure you set the ground rules with the parents before you accept a child. Are you going to be claiming the money? If you aren't, then they can't claim the tax credit, and you will need to charge less. Do you want to be paid even if the kids are not present (vacation or sick days)? Do you want to be paid weekly? Biweekly? Will the parents be supplying the diapers, snacks, etc? My friend has learned the hard way to get these issues settled sooner rather than later.

Nanny agencies are great. I wanted to work part time as a sitter and got a job through one. they do all the back ground and drug checks, plus they check references and the what not. I was hired by a wonderful family and made a ton of money!! This was in Florida so I cannot reccomend a company here... But that would be the first place to start.

Whatever you do, make sure you have reliable references from people you have baby sat for. Even just experiance in a church nursery would help. Let everyone you know what you are doing. It's amazing how fast word of mouth can travel.

I looked up the sitter service and will be definatly using them!! In fact, I think it is so cool, I am wondering how to start it up when I move to Memphis! I really think you should apply (they are hiring) as I will be looking for a day time sitter soon!
