Why should it get accolades? Do you know why Oklahoma City is doing well? It isn't because city planners are doing their job. It isn't because we are some diverse and advanced economy.

Its because of our natural gas and oil. If every state in the country had oil and natural gas, they would be doing at least as well as we are. We actually fail pretty hard at attracting other business(like technology/manufacturing). If Oil became unnecessary tomorrow. This state would turn into Kansas.

It isn't just oil and natural gas. Government is still plays a large role in Oklahoma City's economy thanks to Tinker. The medical field also employs a large portion of OKC's workforce, including the growing bio-science corridor over at OHC. I consider OHC and its research park to be OKC's true ticket to the future.

You can't blame state officials for the laxness of the people. Oil and natural gas may be our life line at the moment, but who can we blame for the lack of personal accountability? The statistics clearly show that people are just not willing to do what it takes to make this economy thrive. It's not rocket science to figure out that we the people are the government, yet we blame individuals for our own lack of involvement in our political process. If you want this state to thrive then get involved in your local economy and help leaders come up with bright, and realistic ideas. (Then complain.) People put too much trust in titles and not enough in the reality of politics. They can only do so much as the human beings they are. Politicians are not mind readers. Get involved.
