Is there such an animal in OKC? I know that the state is overwhelmingly conservative, but surely there must be some liberals or like-minded people/activities/clubs in the city. I am seriously contemplating a move to OKC to be closer to family; they are of the conservative persuasion so they don't really know of anything or anyone that would be my speed.

I am non-religious, gay-friendly, very socially liberal, democrat/progressive, volunteer-minded, love a good civil-rights protest, etc... I know I'm a lamb in the lions den (teasing!), but family is important to me, hence the move.

Advice? Suggestions? Thanks!

Sweetie, I don't think such a place exists for you in this world. I have seen very few genuine liberals in this world. Most have been people who just call themselves liberals and then act all intolerant and disagreeable to anyone who differs from what they think liberalism is. Actually the few genuine liberals I have met have actually been christians who believe in God, the Bible, and the Lord. They make better christians than any conservative.

let me and Annemieke know when you get here. If you can't find one we can start one..............

Actually, locate yourself near one of the Universities and you should find what you are looking for. For SOME reason, liberalism is close to education...........

Thanks for the advice, Goodpasture. I plan on attending OU so perhaps I'll meet some like-minded people. If not, as you mentioned, we can start our own group!

I don't believe in the things you mentioned, but I'm rarely ever intolerant or disagreeable. May I be a liberal now, please? In any case, thank you for the response.

6. of or pertaining to representational forms of government rather than aristocracies and monarchies.

7. free from prejudice or bigotry; tolerant: a liberal attitude toward foreigners.

8. open-minded or tolerant, esp. free of or not bound by traditional or conventional ideas, values, etc.

I was at a science fiction convention last weekend. It was refreshing to hear a whole different point of view than the "normal" one here. No bible pushing. Others who like me think the politics of this state are *strange*. And these were people from Oklahoma. So it exists, just isn't what you hear about. Lot of pagan/wiccans there too. I didn't know what to expect with local fandom being used to the socal version, but found them pretty much the same.

Liberal is unknown, but politics are generally respected as your own.

If you are interested in science fiction or fantasy, even just the media version, check it out. I think you'd enjoy it.

Why bother to say "no offense" if what you're going to say is still offensive? What you're really saying is "don't be insulted even though I am totally going to say something insulting to you." Just don't say it. Luckily, I'm tolerant and did not take offense. Takes a lot more than that.
