I love reading the memories of Wetumka. My Dad grew up there. My Grandfather, Logan Walker, was born there in 1906. I have happy memories of visiting my grandparents for Sucker Day or walking up to the Dairy Queen. I grew up with stories about Wetumka history. I remembering hearing about how the whole town moved when the railroad went through. My Grandfather commented on Wetumka's sidewalks but I didn't know why till I found an old picture. The concrete sidewalks were a big deal because the original ones were wooden and elevated.
My Dad talks about " dragging Main" and going around the flag pole. They would wait till my grandfather, who wasthe Deputy Sheriff, was asleep.

I believe there is still a DQ in Chickasha as well. I ate there a lot growing up.

Chickasha is actually one of my favorite places I've ever lived.

I am so glad to be back in Oklahoma. I just hope that someday I can move out of the OKC Metro area. Nice, small town somewhere...

Why not Guthrie? It doesn't seem too close to OKC to me.

Guthrie isn't bad, and neither is even smaller, further-flung Crescent.

But I am transferring jobs early next month (I work for the state) from a position on NE 23rd in OKC right by the capital to the Eastern edge of Midwest City.

Haven't spent much time in Midwest City (and I consider it basically an extension of OKC) but I'm thinking sometime after I start the job, we might begin looking for a new place to live somewhere that really doesn't feel too connected to the metro.

Maybe out in the country between Choctaw and MWC, or between MWC and Norman or something.

We still hope to buy a house and property at some point, but a year after I start this new job I will be eligible to transfer again, anywhere in the state.

At that point, we might look at a small town near Tulsa, or possibly Grady County, in or near Chickasha. I actually like Chickasha quite a bit. I've spent a lot of time there, know it well, have friends there, it's pretty centrally located in the state, has a university but is still relatively small...

I lived in Wetumka from 1950 to 1967, Wyvon Walker was a class mate, Logan and my father were friends. I remember when he was the police officer their. Still love that town

Congrats on Purcell!

BTW, there's a new DQ in Moore that everyone is talking about. I'll have to go give it a shot!

Is anyone around anymore regarding this thread? I lived there from 1962 until 1969 I believe. My dad bought the old Darks ranch and had a Dairy Farm there. People use to come out to buy milf from my dad C. C. Helton.

I have many questions if anyone is still around. Loved reading all of this
