Just for clarification when I growing up in the 1940s, my Victorian grandmothers referred to persons of color as negro or negra or colored. Any other name was considered uncalled for, rude, unacceptable, or soap-in-your-mouth time. This was before the NAACP came to town in the 1960s.

History is a snapshot in time that cannot be erased or sullied by anger.

Ha! If an Okie hurls in your presence, that's on you!

Don't be surprised if someone throws a blanket over that burnt orange, while offering the much more aesthetically pleasing Crimson&Cream colors of the Sooners.

The biggest problem for Muskogee is location. It was bypassed by I-44 first, and then 1-412 later on. It still gets a ton of 18 wheel traffic with drivers bypassing the tolls on I-44 between Miami and Tulsa.

One of the coolest things Muskogee could use for a building block is the cities' Honor Park. The Five Tribes Museum is inside the main entrance. During the year between April and December tha park hosts all kinds of activities such as the month long Azalea Festival which is well attended by visitors from all over the state and beyond.

It's no big deal when you grab 59 S to 412 E to 1-71 south. Driving to St. Louis is about the same distance and time. In either case, from Grove it was an all day affair for me. HS was pure pleasure whereas St. L was all business.

There is a law of math or physics that indicates if one keeps doing the same thing the same way he or she will reap the same result. OK is very much two different states in one big territory. One-half is green with rolling hills and wildlife. The other half is flat, red earth, and oil wells. In between the borders are rivers, large lakes, small towns, some very nice people, Tulsa to the East and the State Capital to the West.

OK is okay. It is filled with the wonders of discovery and te ghosts of history.

I would move there in a heartbeat if I could. And it may be possible someday.

I started working for the state at the beginning of this year, not long after moving back to Oklahoma. My wife just got hired on with the state, and this will put us in a much better financial situation.

After working for the state for a year, you can apply to transfer anywhere in the state, or apply for jobs in other state agencies, so if we can just hold out here in OKC (my wife will be working in Norman) for a year from now, we can seriously pursue moving to an area we love and purchasing a home and some land. At least that is the plan.

And the region in and around Grove is way up high on the list.
Not Grove. Griffis. Tahlequah. You recommended it to me 9 years ago, and I still love it here. Prettier than Grove outside of not having Grand Lake.

I should have waited to rep you, but I didn't know that you were going to come up with a better post than the last on this subject.

I think calling people "colored" is not the same as "People of color." We all know that the word "Negro" and "colored" are racist words. "All" maybe I should have said people with any sensitivity should know that by now. And I am just trying to be politic right now to Army guy.

I agree with the person who mentioned Stilwell. I also find Muskogee to be very strange when you are driving around the town off Shawnee, the main road. The city looks and feels like the post apocalypse had happened. The buildings look empty, the streets look empty. We went to the mall for Christmas and hardly anyone is there, and in the larger stores you can hardly find a sales person. I was almost afraid that I one of the walking dead would jump out at me.

And furthermore we have a governor who gives to the big oil companies and not to the schools, and we have allowed Wal-Mart to destroy our small towns. Is it a wonder people turn to drugs? I believe that the elite don't want people to have an education; they just want people to work for slave wages and to create a society with just the rich and the poor, a slave society. And the republicans have brainwashed people into thinking that they will one day be rich like them, trickle down economy. Do you see it working? I don't.

This thread began in 2011 and ended in 2013 except for the last 5 posts which were written in 2016. (Just a bit of trivia.)
