I found a big ol' snake today, about 4 ft long.
Scared the ---- outta me. I hate them! LoL Anyway, my son in law said that it was a rat snake. He stepped on it's head to kill it and it was biting at his boot. I noticed that the inside of it's mouth was very white. Does anyone know it a rat snake has a white mouth inside? I thought that was only with a cotton mouth. I was going to take a photo, but they creep me out so I didn't wanna. I found this one on the net and it looks very close to the one I found today.

rat snake. they WILL bite, and the bites can get infected, but they are not poisonous. they will also shake their tail like a rattler, only they don't have rattles.

Too bad you killed it. They kill rats and other pests. I can understand your fear but these animals help keep the rodent population down.

Black Rat snakes have a VERY pale pink/whitish looking mouth. Very beneficial to have around unless you happen to be phobic... then they can cause heart-attacks.
I changed your title so our snake-phobic folks will know not to "peek"
My rough earth snake population is growing quite nicely!
But it is difficult to mow the lawns without losing one or two.

Not to hijack too much, I had a jumping spider sort of follow me around the yard today. Well, not follow, but every time I zigged so I wouldn't step on him [and he was a big one, has to be for me to see him], he'd zig too, instead of zagging. Must have looked pretty funny to the neighbors!

I live with snakes it seems. Went out to the mailbox and a diamond back (which I thought didn't live here) with two rattles was practially rapped around the mail box. The hill my house is built into is called rattlesnake hill. I've had Indians come by and ask if they could hunt rattle snakes. YES....... When we moved here 11 years ago, I had never seen scopions (I thought they were baby lobsters) and snakes all over the place. I figured my husband moved me to purgatory but after awhile you get use to it. But..never snakes, maybe coyotes or wild boar but never snakes.

We're under contract (selling our house in town) and will close on the 26th of this month. Our property that we're moving to is where I saw the snake. If I had seen that thing before we signed the contract....this gal would have probably decided to stay in town!! LoL

Scared the ---- outta me. I hate them! LoL Anyway, my son in law said that it was a rat snake. He stepped on it's head to kill it and it was biting at his boot. I noticed that the inside of it's mouth was very white. Does anyone know it a rat snake has a white mouth inside? I thought that was only with a cotton mouth. I was going to take a photo, but they creep me out so I didn't wanna. I found this one on the net and it looks very close to the one I found today.
But it is difficult to mow the lawns without losing one or two.
