In your area I would have way to shut them off and istall a way of draining them I would noi go thru this each year.I live in North Florida and for the most part we drip our faucets.Running water will not freeze. In your area I imagine you could get an extreme run of freezing temps,so dripping does not sound practical.

We just put those little styrofoam covers on the faucets and have never had a problem.

Styrofoam covers only work to hold in the heat that is there. If the pipes are away from the house, then there probably isn't enough heat to hold in the first place. And the Styrofoam is only so effective anyway. It usually works well with a standard faucet on the side of the house with the plumbing inside the house.

There is something called heat tape. I've never used it, but you should be able to find it at your local hardware store or home improvement store. You will have to plug it into an electrical outlet, but it should be way better than a broken faucet. You just wrap it around the pipes and plug it in, I believe. Good luck!

I used heat tape on my pipes for my travel trailer while I was working up in Pennsylvania, and it worked very well. You have to follow the instructions very carefully and follow them to a T. There is a small thermostat that is located on the heat strip, and that thermostat has to be on the pipe. If you don't do that, the tape, which is just a extension cord with resistance on it, will get too hot and melt.
