A patient who has performed a repetitive skill for years doesn't stop doing the same thing. I think resarchers are learning patients develop dementia far earlier than they report. It really doesn't get "wild and woolly" until much later in the disease. The current dementia drug works or it doesn't. In the case of my spouse it worked well as it calmed the episodes of radical behavior. The episodes were of shorter duration and less hectic.

It is exciting that research is finding new tools for patients to work with. However, I have to say that a woman who does not like the set a table is not going to do it. That was never important in our house. My spouse did the same things the same way at approximately the same time for 25 years until 2 days before death. The Alzheimer's changed nothing in regards in my spouses' ability to perform repetitive skills. Lack of oxygen was the equalizer. My spouse died from Fibrosis. .
