I THANK you sir.

We're aware of those things, and the worst parts for us will be the bugs and heat.
But if everything else is in place, most people can adapt to those things.

We have more than our shared of rednecks here...
We call 'em "cowpokes".

ndnz.... Took me a minute to figure that one out...
How can anyone begrudge the Native Americans?

We're not gamblers, so I don't imagine we'll be frequenting any casinos.

Pond fishing is good... Providing one watches out for snakes.

Don't know anything about oil well disasters, but I grew up and lived (until we moved up North in 2001) about 45 minutes from a nuclear power plant... Compared to that, an oil well just doesn't seem scary... Feel free to correct me.

The real estate and cost of living is cheap compared to New England, you don't get single snow storms that dump over 3 feet of snow in 24 hours, employment doesn't look too bad by the statistics, and it's a red state.

QUESTION: Will my kids be disliked for being outsiders and anglos?
The rule in my house is that we judge folks by their actions. Race or color don't enter into it.

Everywhere has it's share of idiots... Some places more than others.
And... YOU don't think I'm on my better behavior here?

I totally appreciate you wanting to make sure I get the truth about OK.

THANKS redbird,

I thought the natives were more into peyote back in the day.

Absolutely!
Get a UPS. (Interruptible Power Supply) As in battery back up.

The better ones have AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulation) which will better protect your machine from surges and brownouts.

Check them out: APC Product Information for UPS

If you have any questions, I'll be back here after work today.

You could always go to work for Dell in OKC if times were tough. What do you think of Dell computers?

I know that question was intended for CG, but the computer we have is a Dell and it works okay. I have heard some bad stuff about Dell lately though; like their quality has gone down. Thus far, the one we have is working fine.

So far the best for me has been a Gateway.

Ok, I need the surge protection and battery backups, and can think of some people who would like those for Christmas presents. I have heard that those you get at regular stores are not that great as far as surge protection from lightning. I don't have brownouts here so far. I looked at CG's link but did not see the add to cart option.

Since in Oklahoma we have some very mean lightning and frequent power outages too, can someone tell me where to go & prices. DM if necessary.

90% of the ndnz you meet here you won't know they are. Folks like Will Rogers, President Bill Clinton, Walter Brennan, Cher, Kevin Costner, James Garner, Burt Reynolds, Dennis Weaver, Anita Bryant, Halle Berry, Johnny Cash, Eartha Kitt, Della Reese, Tina turner, Vanessa Williams Loretta Lynn, and Willie Nelson to name a few all claim Cherokee heritage. Even Oral Roberts and Kenneth Copeland claim to be Cherokee. We have Choctaw astronauts. Chances are your attorney, your accountant, your barber, the clerk at the supermarket, and all of your clients will claim ndn heritage of one sort or another. In this part of the country there is no difference between the ndn and non-ndn.

I've purchased three Dell's in the last 4 years.....two of them lasted less than a year, the one still being used has been back to the factory service people three times. Once it is toast, I will NEVER own a Dell again.

I suppose I like the Gateways about 10% better than the Dells, but...
BTW... If you have one of the Dell XPS series, they're a LOT better than their regular machines, but still... (Please don't flame me folks!)

If you want a really good machine, you do it yourself and pick each component.

I like Christmas presents... Have you ever considered adopting a nice, soon to be Okie family?

My son's UPS is better than mine... But he doesn't have to waste his money on food, mortgage or bills.

And yes... The ones you see in the average store don't cut it in the REAL world...
Do you folk have any Staples, Best Buy or Office Max places out there?
They'll order them for you if you request the right model.

AND... As far as ordering things on-line... I try to avoid it at all costs, whenever possible.

I didn't mean to infer you should buy them on-line, I just wanted to show everyone the GOOD stuff. The important part to remember is that if you spend the money, you should get one that has AVR. That makes ALL the difference in the world.

And YES, with storms like you have there, it makes sense to protect your investment (your computer that costs more than $400+) by spending the extra $150
to keep it chugging happily along.

Hmmm... Sure wish I had stock in A.P.C. now...
