We are in the midwest and not another Southern State. I have lived in the South, and I hope to never live in the South again. The difference that I see is that the racism here isn't like it is in the south. I don't hear the N word here; whereas in the south I heard it constantly, but I am not going to go on about this Southern thing.

To echo jessaka's comments; Oklahoma is definitely not a Southern state in my opinion. The whole Rebel flag flying thing is not really popular in Oklahoma and when I visit the real South I get an entirely different feel from when I'm in Oklahoma. It does have more of a midwest or southwestern feel to it than it does the South.

People from the midwest will say that OK is definitely not a midwestern state. We are not a southern state, but Texas is. We might be a southwestern state, sometimes.

We are NOT southwestern, nor southern, nor midwestern. All the time people were trying to geographically label states, we were a combination of two things.....No Mans Land and the Indian Nations. We were a collection of outlaws, redlegs, quantrell and Bloody Bills guerrillas, indians, misfits, prostitutes, and roughnecks. We don't fit in a hole like "New England" or "Southern" or "Left Coast," although we have influenced absolutely every one of those regions.

Including Oklahoma as part of a region, is like saying salt is a meal. Salt is salt, Oklahoma is Oklahoma. A meal is tasteless without a bit of salt, and the United States would be just another country without Oklahoma.

Do we(from Ca.) really have that much of an accent? Some Oklahoma accents are hardly noticable, atleast to me. But some are strong too. either way, I enjoy listening to them.

We have an accent to those that ask, "Where are you from?"

Folks from Bakersfield don't seem to have much of an accent..........but there is someplace called "the Valley" where they really mangle the language....

I'm glad to hear this because I find the south a little scary.

This is all news to me! Please elaborate?
