This article compares last week's ice storm with other ice storms.

How does last week's ice storm compare?

Did you guys know that they are still talking about the OKC area on CNN news? I was shocked to see it this morning. I figured everything was getting fairly stable there by now.

OK is still on the news here in the North East...
Seems 5,000 are STILL without power...

That makes it awful hard for me to feel sorry for myself after
complaining that THIS Winter is the worst I've seen since 2001.

The problem for most people is that their electric boxes were torn off their house or damaged, and they have to be fixed by licensed electricians. Some people don't have the money for this, so there is a plan to pay $500 for each repair through FEMA. Hope it works and it doesn't bog down in red tape. How you can get help with power repairs

They NEVER told us that here...
Shouldn't their homeowners' insurance take care of that?

That's why they made it $500, because that is the normal deductible. They surveyed electricians, who agreed that would be about how much it would cost.

Of course, how silly of me....
Like insurance companies are going to lose money...

They like to make money, but they SURE don't like to pay it out...
My wife has an aunt in FL, and you wouldn't believe what she had to go through to get them to honor their policy after a hurricane last year...

They are happy as long as the money is flowing their way. I have read about all the trouble people in Florida and Louisiana have had in getting their claims paid. It really sounded criminal. My sis who lives in Mississippi finally won her case about wind vs. water in Katrina. The insurance cos. all made the assumption that the houses were all damaged by the water, so no payment. It took a long time, but they finally made them pay up. They finally found part of their house almost a mile inland, so it had to be wind that destroyed the house.

And even when they lose... The Fed bails them out....

That's why we need Ron Paul for president. He is not already bought and paid for by the corporations.
