I have tried searching for a thread already about this but didn't find one, apologies if there already is one. We are moving to a rural property in Luther that was just empty land when we bought it. A "911 address" was created before the house was built, but before we move in and put up a mailbox, what should we do to make sure mail gets delivered? I'm assuming just putting up a mailbox doesn't magically put us on some mail carrier's mail route.

Why not talk to the Postmaster at the post office? I think asking that person would be the way to find out.

Mail yourself a letter, see if it gets there

Put up a mailbox with the right 911 address. It will get your mail. The delivery driver probably knows (by now) not only where you live, but what your names are and what kind of car you drive.

I've had two mailboxes taken out by drivers who have a hard time handling icy roads, so I have every thing delivered to the PO Box. Haven't had a mail box now for about 5 years.

Contact the local post office. They will likely confirm the address or provide it to you and likely tell you what side of the road to put your mail box on as it may be on the other side of the road from your property depending on what direction the postman(person) is heading on their route. This will also notify the post office that they now need to deliver mail to you.

Thank you everyone, I did call the local post office and they had the post-person look and tell us where we should put the mailbox, and even told us how tall to make sure it is.
