has opened in Muskogee and advertising Valentine sushi special for two $49.95 and hibachi special for two $89.99. Those prices are steep. I don't know if the town can or will support it. Couple years ago, a building was constructed for a new restaurant. They posted a menu in the newspaper and it sounded good, but was very expensive. It didn't stay open even a year.

Rubi, you have to know that finding raw, food grade, tuna for public consumption that is safe to eat is not easy. Charging Chicago prices probably won't play well, either. I wouldn't do it. When I was in LV a few years ago we ate a coupld of blocks away from the strip at a elegant small $7 buffet. It offered several fish dishes including artificial sushi -- which was divine.

The fish market in our town is over 100 years old. I had a conversation about sushi one day with one of the owners. He stunned me when he said, "You would be amazed at the tuna we get that is marked "good grade" that we won't sell to the public because it doesn't meet our standards." I've been skeptical about sushi ever since.

Yes, I do know. I did go to their online site and will be ordering to pick up before long. Their prices don't seem as high as expected. www.sakuramuskogee.com

$90 for fish bait? This ain't Yankee Territory where you can get away with such prices.

How in the world did the owners think Muskogee could handle a high end sushi joint. Had to be some transplants.

Someone get the memo to them that Okies like our seafood fried....and by seafood I mean freshwater catfish.

I think the $90 price is a valentine special.

I never really got into sushi, but I also would not mind trying this place out. I have spent $80 for two people before many times. Most often for birthday meals, etc. Ain't no thang.

LOL at bass's comment. This okie palate wants steak, but it's all about making the missus happy. Deer meat and fried corn!

Was that you and the missus I saw squabbling over the last steak last friday?

We hit the Corral on sunday mornings. The fixin' ain't half bad. I prefer The Grand Casino buffet on friday night. With 1/2 off coupons and using my reward points, of course.

If are from Oklahoma, shouldn't you have higher standard for your beef than Golden Corral?

But then I like sushi too. Not usually from Japanese steakhouses, but I like it. Yokozuna, Fuji, In The Raw, there are plenty of good sushi places in Oklahoma.
