On city-data and neighborhood scout, Durant is noted as having high crime. But several people on this forum like the town. So it's a bit confusing. My wife doesn't want to live in a dangerous place, so I'd love to get the real lowdown. Thanks in advance!

So keep your home and car locked so as to not be an easy target for thieves. It's hard not to like a town that is growing.

Is there anywhere in the world where a person is 100% safe from crime?

Well, she had a gun to her head in Richmond, VA, a few years ago. She's also legally blind -- walks with a guide dog -- so it's not always so easy to see the threats coming. When the crime rate comes up as half-again as much as Richmond, it becomes something she thinks about, especially since she walks everywhere.

It's quite dangerous.

A few years ago I bought a trailer from there. One of the guys who worked at the trailer sales lot saw my Air Force decal on my truck's rear window. He asked if I was Air Force, and I said, yes, about to retire. What did I do, he asked, and I told him I flew. At that point he beamed, shook my hand so hard it damn near crushed it, and said his Army battalion was saved by the Air Force in Desert Storm. Hurt all the way to Fort Worth, my destination that day.

So, yes, Durant is dangerous.

I'm from Oklahoma and have friends from Durant. It's about as peaceful as a place can be. Having said that, even Mayberry had a few shady characters.

No, look at how the 4 people were murdered in Stillwater, Saturday morning. They never saw it coming in time to get out of the way.

No, Kevin Durant is a really nice guy, he might be tall but you don't have to worry about him
