My parents plan on moving to Muskogee in a few years. I have been there, but only once as a small girl. I dont remember much. What do you think about it?

It's better than many other Oklahoma towns without being too small. After all, it has an enclosed shopping mall downtown with a Dillard's, even. The town is kinda hilly and famous for having an azalea festival at Honor Heights Park. I don't think your parents can go wrong here. And Tulsa isn't too far away for advanced medical care, if needed.

If you are still going to be in school when your parents move to Muskogee, seriously get them to look at living in the Hillsboro School District or go across the river to Ft. Gibson.

I would suggest even finding a house in Ft. Gibson. I find Muskogee to be very run down.

Agreed with Mattie Jo. Muskogee is very affordable but you get what you pay for. It's a great place to retire or if you have a teaching degree or medical degree. There's also a couple colleges if that interests you. Bacone, Connors oh and now NSU. Theres also a vocational school. There really is alot of resourses there, but I wouldn't move my kids back to the schools. Fort Gibson is great and it's about 5 minutes from Muskogee. Also there's Hilldale school district which is within the Muskogee County but much less populated and the neighborhoods are cleaner and less riffraff.

Default No to Muskogee

Anybody I have spoken to in Tulsa that are from Muskogee are glad they are out of the crappy town. It is small, run down, government pushes away growth and it is approx. 45 minutes from Tulsa. I have been to the town several times and still hate going when I have to. Tell your parents to find another small town to live in, such as one bordering Tulsa.

What? Muskogee's very young mayor, who's around 21 recently got relected by a big margin, has been pushing away growth? So what's his problem? Has he been going along with the good 'ol boys 100% of the time? If so, I don't blame him. Stillwater's young mayor, also in his 20's, refused to go with the good 'ol boys 100% of the time and look what happened. He ended up in a recall election to be decided tomorrow, May 11th. I sure hope he is retained.

I am very familiar with Muskogee. I was born and raised near Muskogee, and still go there about once or twice a week. When I was a kid Muskogee was where we went if we wanted to go shopping. You can tell at one time it used to be a very rich town but now it is on its knees. There are tons of huge two storie homes that are rotting and falling down. If your folks are wanting to live in the Muskogee area Ft Gibson and Tahlequah have much more to offer.
