Does anyone know anything about City Building Codes? If you are converting a carport into a living quarters does that require a building permit and does the work need to be done by a licensed contractor? I have some undesirables living across from me and they are in the process of some shady construction and I have contacted our City Manager, Inspector, Police and have yet to get any help. I have even contacted the home owner who is oblivious to the rules and laws of living in town.

Look in the phone book and call a city office such as Public Works or call one of the numbers listed and ask for a connection to the permits section. I'm fairly certain a permit is required. It's a major change to an existing structure.

Yep, I contacted the City Manager, left a message and he actually called me back!!!!! I explained what my issue was, he sent the Code Enforcement Officer out and shut them down. You see, I own my house, this is the house I grew up in and the neighborhood I grew up in and there are several other home owners that have said something to me about what was going on so I had to do something. They are renting from an older gentleman who lives North of town and gave them permission without thinking of the rules of living in town and they are taking advantage of him anyway.

They are also selling dope out of the residence I watched one transaction (the Police know about it), there is an ex-felon living there with 28 years on paper, they have lived there not even a year and the Police have been there twice and one time was this last Easter Sunday! I am sick and tired of Trash living in my neighborhood!! I have a wife and two children and should not have to worry about playing outside with them, but I do.!! I hope you can sense my frustration.

Thank you for taking the time to help me.

My granddaughter and her husband opened a store in Oklahoma City and soon discovered they needed a permit to do so. It was a good lesson for them as they changed locations several times over the years.

We once added a patio to our home, otherwise I probably wouldn't have realized most additions to a structure need a permit.
