Hi everyone:

I am considering the possibility of moving to Durant, OK in the next year or so. I'm mainly wanting to learn about the good and bad about it. I do know it's a small city and that cost of living seems cheaper than most places. But what about crime? What neighborhoods and good and which are bad?

I'm looking to stay in the Durant city limits, looking for a 3 bedroom house which is no more than $55-$60k which I know at that price point would need some work but hopefully not super expensive work that would have to be fixed before moving in.

If anyone knows anything, let me know.

I spent half of my growing-up Durant. Generally, from Main Street and northward is nicer. My favorite neighborhoods include the neighborhood adjacent to downtown on the northwest side (where many of Durant's early wealthy lived), and the neighborhood along Main and Evergreen between 16th and 20th.

So I would probably want to stay north of Main Street then yes?

OK Thanks. Looking at the google maps, in the areas where I'm finding houses, the neighborhoods look very rough.

Johnhw2 is the president of our local 'Support Durant' chapter here on C-D. I'm sure he'll be along shortly.

I can't add to or correct any thing said. The homes in this area are older not sure about pricing. You need to visit GM op or connect with a a durant realtor. The newer housing stock is outside area of durant and is much higher ta
Han ops budget.

One of the best things about Durant is the Choctaw Casino. Even if you don't gamble there are lots of things going on there. Duran Duran was there a little while ago, and Amy Shumer will be there in about a month, for example. For a small town, the casino gives lots of entertainment option you normally wouldn't have.
