Bryan county, where Durant is the located grew at 4% in population. I saw a map that showed it is the only county outside the major metro areas to grow this fast. I can not recall the timing of those lists that are usually posted on CD forums but do not see them this year.

Any way good job Bryan County Ok.

Durant has done a great job growing it's economy. As a result it has really enhanced it's reputation as a community. One of the few smaller cities in Oklahoma that has done so that isn't a suburb or an exurb.

This was over 2017 using the US wide estimates done mid year each year. Usually there is a thread showing all counties and cities in the fall when the data is released in the fall then later each year metro estimates are released.

I should have included this info in my post thanks for asking.

Bryan county has benefited from a successful economic development leader who brought a new steel recycling operation to Durant as well as rapid expansion if choctaw casino just south of Durant. The steel plant opened in the past year and represented an investment if Iver $400M. This plant is the second largest electricity yser in Oklahoma.

Bryan county benefits from it's proximity to DFW metroplex, in fact it is part if the extended DFW metro as defined by the fed gov stats

I should mention these are population estimates and the year prior to this latest looked low and out of range so perhaps the prior year estimate was too low making the 4% growth figure too high. But this area has seen string consistent growth. Continuing that trend maybe challenging with the retirement of Tommy Kramer the highly acclaimed head of economic development.

But the entertainment options are incredible with the casino and State University in Durant focusing on the arts. Reba McEntire attended the University and performs at the casino each Thanksgiving as just one example. Northern DFW is an attractive and fast growing part if the metro. Plans can be found online for infrastructure expansion including the north Dallas tollway expansion to near the OK line on US75 near Durant.

US 75 is four to five lanes each direction now north of McKinney Tx and 3 to 5 mile stretches are added each year making it like an Interstate highway approaching fast by infrastructure plan time frames.

Lots of change coming Durant's way.
