How are things around Meeker these days? I used to spend summers at my grandparents place north of Meeker. They raised cattle and had a nice farm. This would have been about 1967,68. Meeker was a neat liitle town with a great little restaurant at the main intersection in town. The best rodeo I ever attend was in Meeker. I plan on making a trip back there this late spring and see if I can find the old place they lived. They also lived in Jones and Wanette and I will try to find their old homes there too. I just remember Meeker being a great area with really friendly people. Hope it hasn't much. See ya this Spring.

Meeker has about 1K people so it is double the size that it was in the 60s. LOL. What is interesting is that Meeker got it's growth in the 70s and has stayed flat since then. It's probably just a bit too far from OKC and Shawnee to grow but it might become an exurb in the future.
They still are all about the famous baseball player from the 1930s in Meeker. They have a museum for him and they recently named the main drag after him. Time for Meeker to produce another favorite son IMO.

Sleepy town right off of I-40 east. I go right by it every month to go visit my homeplace near Poteau.

Old town Jones is probably about like you would have remembered it but there are are bunch of subdivisions all around Jones these days out in the trees. The actual population of Jones has grown some and the number of students enrolled in Jones schools is pretty large but you'd never guess it by going through town.
There some really fancy upscale homes around Jones any more.

I do not think so. I used to live on the eastside of the city and on the outskirts.
Like EddieG said, I think most of Jones revolves around the school system. They do have a great place you can get one of the better chicken fried steaks you've ever had---Roosters.
Other than Roosters and the school, there ain't much goin' on out there. Also, (sadly) I believe their mascot is a longhorn.
Must have been some cheeky texan who started that town.

I have travelled quite a bit in Oklahoma and it seems every town has a famous person from there. Football player, country singer or something else. There is usually a sign at the entrance to the town.

You got that right. In fact if you go through Thomas, OK there is a sign on both ends of town touting "Wade Christianson (Mary Fallon's husband) Oklahoma's 'First Gentleman'".
Even though Fallon is no longer the gov, the signs are still there.
To be totally honest, if I were from Thomas I'd kinda be embarrassed.
