It was just a few years ago that I remember seeing OK license plates that said "Native America" in prominent letters. With that, the state put out an official sign in favor of this ruling, implying that indeed a big chunk of OK belongs to Native America.

Lots of interesting cases like this winding their way through the courts. City of Irving reached an agreement with the Indian tribe who was granted water rights to the lake Hugo area and the city of Hugo. The agreement was to sell surplus water from lake Hugo to Irving, in violation of state law. It will be interesting to see if this right granted to the tribe when they tribe was moved to Oklahoma before it was a state is controlling or state law.

The experts I have heard believe the state of Oklahoma will settle this before the supreme court takes away its right to control water rights granted to Indian tribes by the fed gov before Ok was s state.

The amount of water surplus from lake huge is a huge amount. It is typically an amount that would satisfy NYC annual water needs times your, in a typical year of surplus flow over the damn.

The Dawes Act did not apply to the Five Civilized Tribes or the handful of other tribes in the Indian Territory (which was never part of Oklahoma Territory).
