Seems like the message is get vaccinated or get ready to wears masks again. I am seeing around my town more people wearing masks. A month ago, almost no one. Now I would say its 20-25%.

Stillwater mayor addresses recent COVID spike:
The latest numbers from Oklahoma State Department of Health are not good. Cases and hospitalizations are rising quickly. We are in danger of being right back where we were in the winter with hospitals full, health care providers overwhelmed, and people needlessly dying from COVID.

60% of our community has not yet been vaccinated. Why not?

Don't think you're at risk? 95% of hospitalizations are unvaccinated people. The age range is younger than it was in the initial waves. Fit, healthy people can get COVID, and it can have devastating long term effects for them, too.

I don't care or oppose if the Stillwater mayor eventually wants to return to the mandate of requiring mask wear in public in stores as long as he also doesn't require the shutdown of any businesses. That would adversely affect the local economy too much. But keep in mind, wearing masks will never work as long as people think they don't have to do it whenever a city ordinance doesn't require it, such as welcoming people in their homes without insisting they have masks on. I certainly believe most people think they came down sick with COVID-19 from deciding not to have a mask on when being around people. That is how a friend of mine thinks she came down sick from COVID-19.
