Wasn't there an off season pro football team out of Tulsa about 25 years ago called the Oklahoma Outlaws?

Thought so.....it was a USFL team.

Oklahoma Outlaws has a nice ring to it. Oklahoma City Outlaws has too many syllables. IMO drop the "city". Oklahoma could use some solidarity.

I chose Thunder.

Thunderbirds sounds too Native American for me, Outlaws, well a lot of people have a problem with that one because the outlaw always loses in the movies (according to people on another forum). And Barons, well to me it just doesn't sound right. It makes sense, but not for an Oklahoma NBA team, imo.

In order my favs:

1. Thunder
2. Outlaws
3. Barons
4. T birds

Thunder... yes we see alot of it here but it doesnt seem fitting for a team.. Sounds more like a kids soccer team.

Outlaws... sounds better than Barons or Thunder, because we were part of the "wild west".

My Choice though would be the Thunderbirds due to the heritage of the 45th Infantry (known as the Thunderbirds) that has been a part of Oklahoma since 1940 and has been in most of the worlds conflicts. It would be a good salute to the soldiers of Oklahoma... so long as the team embraced the military and didnt just see it as a way to pad thier pockets. Perhaps a wall in the new arena dedicated to the fallon Oklahoma soldiers, and perhas honoring different soldiers at each home game. And of course the colors should be something more patriotic, perhaps Red, White, and Blue.. After all...that is what the 45th is currently in Iraq and Afghanistan defending.

Perhaps I am partial to the name, after all I spent 8 yrs with a Thunderbird patch on my shoulder.

And I'd like to thank you for your service prerunner.

Personally, I like Thunderbirds as well, although it would take a little getting used to for a name. I'm also in agreement with GP, that it should be an Oklahoma name rather than only Oklahoma City. Yes, Okc has put the most effort into this, but the alienation of Tulsa followers by not recognizing that OkC would not be getting this team if not for the rest of the state, and especially the nearby Tulsa metropolitan area could possibly be a death knell over the years in terms of attendance.

Not that I'd want that to happen. If they do insist on the "OkC whatevers" I wish them success and think over time the entire state would adopt the team as their own, regardless of their name.

I do hope they play several games a year at the BOK arena. That venue is going to be phenomenal.

I also like the XXX Thunder..

How about the Oklahoma Boomers? Hey, it's just a thought. There is a lot of "booming" going on in Oklahoma, be it the Sooners or thunderstorms..

I take that back. It does sound too closely related to the Sooners. I love the Sooners, but not a good idea..

It might boost state solidarity if the team owners would split the home games between Tulsa and OKC.

That might help soothe some of the feathers over the decision to use OKC instead of just Oklahoma in the name.

They will split a few games over to the BOK Arena, and it might help to soothe some of the feathers, but it might take awhile. Keep in mind, Tulsa and OkC, like other metropolitan areas in other states have a rivalry.

However, all in all, if the team comes to OkC and becomes the OkC xxxxxx, I would support them.

I do wish they would make it a state team as many other states have done, like th Minnesota Timberwolves, etc.
