A 2 billion dollar theme park by the name of American Heartland is expected to be more than 1,000 acres cost 2 billion dollars and expected to open in 2026 in the town of Vinita, OK in the northeastern part of the city. What are your thoughts? Are you excited, worried? Believe it when you see it? https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbs...can-heartland/

Somebody put a thread on this on the P&OC board and all the non Okies are piling on claiming it is either a scam or going to be a failure because "Oklahoma". Especially all those nasty, putrid Texans on there.

I don't come to this forum very often so I didn't know that. I thought it was an interesting development and thought I'd share. Looks like a great opportunity especially all of the jobs this will create.

Oops, didn't notice that you were a nice Texan. Sorry about that.

There has been talk of an Oklahoma theme park on I-44 for fifty years. In the 1970s they were talking about something called "Seven Continents" between OKC and Tulsa. Never happened of course. But this group seems to be pretty legit. Owner is from the area. Has a pretty diverse port folio. Has a decent sized operation and is some sort of rennisiance man (He writes novels on top of everything else). He is from SE Kansas and was the top Pizza Hut franchisee in terms of numbers of units which is where he made his first fortune.

Supposedly they already have the investors.

That's ok. I'd love to American Heartland once it opens. I love amusement parks and haven't been in the Tulsa area since 2007. I want to go to Frontier City in Oklahoma City.

It sounds like an interesting concept. There is more to it than just another amusement park which would be necessary to draw people from around the country. It would seem to make more sense to put it between OKC and Tulsa. Or down closer to the TX border. If they cannot get enough people traveling from other states its going to struggle.

Long time residents seem to be jaded by these sorts of potential big projects. Here in Cushing there is suppose to be a large refinery built with the project beginning late this year. The attitude by locals is I will believe it when its up and running.

We have actually been through this before. There was supposed to be a giant theme park named "Seven Continents" built in Stroud in the 1970s. Lots of hype. Never broke ground.

The refinery in Cushing which the news story made it sound like a done deal. If you look at the details. They need federal and state permits and money to buy the property and fund the entire venture which they don't have yet. The company only has 3 or 4 employees currently. All they have currently is the city of Cushing liking the idea. And the economic development board in Cushing, the story makes it sound like they are doing great work bringing in a major refinery.

Believe me, I get it. My hometown of Texarkana was always proposing things like amusement parks or something like manufacturing and nothing would come of it.

Did you see my last post over on that P&OC thread? LOL. I wonder how long before they start calling us Wokelahoma?
