Here is the situation. We live in town in Yukon right now. But my husband and I are both from small oklahoma towns. When we married I agreed to live in same addition as ex-wife for my husbands two boys well being. Our agreement was stay here until they graduate then we move anywhere I want. That was 5 yrs ago. Now it's my turn to get my part of the bargain. We now have a 4yr old girl together. I am soooooo ready to get away from here!!! I miss the country bad. I want my daughter to be raised country and show animals in 4-H and FFA. So we are looking for a place with space! Privacy, Space, Land and price are all very important. But my husband works downtown OKC so I don't want to make his commute too long. I am stay at home mom/bookkeeper homeoffice. So it doesn't matter to me except for good school for my daughter and good town for her to grow up in. And of course price! We looked around and so far Newcastle interested us both very much. So what I need from everyone is advice. Info on Newcastle would be great. The internet can only tell you so much. Hearing things from someone who actually knows is better. So tell me what you all think. I am so excited to finally get out of here---and don't get me wrong---as far as the town is concerned, Yukon is a great place. But my deal is that the ex-wife is here!!! So I am leaving!! Yeah!! oh and by the way, my parents live 2 hrs south of OKC, so this is another reason the south side sounded pretty good--it would shorten my drive to the folks! If you are looking for country that stays country, you might want to stay away from Newcastle-Tuttle-Newcastle-Bridge Creek. These areas are growing so fast right now that you might be disappointed in 10-15 years.

Newcastle is one of fastest-growing OKC suburbs right now (behind Piedmont, Blanchard, and Tuttle). However, it has a somewhat broader business base than these other towns, so its infrastructure keeps up better with its growth. The Chickasaws just opened the largest casino in Oklahoma on the south side of the city, and they have a casino at I-44 & US-62 that they plan to expand. They also have a Wal-Mart Supercenter, and I'm hearing about all kinds of other business development that's about to happen there.

Tuttle and Bridge Creek have been all about residential development for awhile, but their business bases are largely undeveloped. Their infrastructures are not impressive (the Bridge Creek area is actually mostly unincorporated, so their services come largely from rural cooperatives and the county). Blanchard has also been experiencing rapid residential growth, but the coming highway-widening project through the center of town and the large annexations in 2004 kinda lead me to believe that its largely rural feel is also temporary.

Three years ago, I moved to the Dibble area (from Norman), about 5 miles south of Blanchard. It takes me around 30 minutes to get close to downtown OKC, and I don't have to live in all that growth. I've been pretty happy here. It's rural, and far enough away from the explosive growth of the near-SW suburbs to not be caught up in it while being close enough to be too out-of-touch. It's nice, quiet, and dark here at night.

Unfortunately, work may cause me to relocate away from here within the next few months. I'll miss it.

Want to stay some distance from OKC and close to Norman but out of the crowds and hopefully with cheaper rent.

Newcastle definitely seems to be in the right location. A gas station and post office would be fine as long as Moore has all the walmarts and other stuff we would need. We also like a beer and sometimes country music and classic rock but I'm sure that could be found there. I played country for 20 years as a pro in Ok, Az, Or and Nebraska - still record and put mp3's on my websites. We also like the Kingbirds and Scissortails and spend a lot of time watching them.

Making money with websites can be done from home and some people still get rich on it - I wouldn't recommend against starting a home business based on a website catering to specific interests, but it takes a lot of work and profits can be slim to non-existent at times. People who do -specialize in babies, kids, puppies, with a few affiliate programs might do very well, including those that related to a particular city.

Newcastle (or "Tri Cities") is pretty much considered as being part of Oklahoma City anymore. It absolutely is not "country" at all.

If you want to be within some comfortable commuting distance to Oklahoma City and still have that "country" feeling, I would suggest moving farther south to places near Chickasha and Blanchard.

In the long run, the Kilpatrick Turnpike is going to extend south and overtake that H.E. Bailey Turnpike extension toward Norman (and finally extend all the way to I-35). If you're south of that, on the outside of it you'll have a better chance of preserving the "country" environment than you would be being within that outer beltway.

I have 10 acres of land in Macomb! i simply love it. It is about an hour from OKC though. I also work in the city. I love it in the country!

I have lived in Newcastle since 2000. I have 5 acres with 180 acres behind me, 5 acres next to me vacant, one neighbor on 5 acres next to me. Definitely peaceful, rural, but within reasonalbe distance from everything. I work downtown so it takes 30 minutes to arrive---no longer than Edmondites. I love it, plenty of space....city slickers stay away.

I totally agree!~ This is a great little, country town, a place where people wave at you when you drive by! I also live on 5 acres and I love it, we have enough to get through the necessities, and are close enough to the City to have everything. We have the casino, but it is not growing out of control!!!!! I love this town and would never venture out of it, been a newcomer for 3-4 years now!

Sorry this is rual, and country, I agree Chicasha and Blanchard are nice, but we are nothing like "The City"!!!!!

Been in northern Newcastle on 15 acres for 35 years. The growth has been tremendous. No longer do we live on, and in close proximity to, nice, quiet, coutry roads with plenty of room on the shoulders to ride our horses .... now it's all paved with no shoulders (just deep bar ditches) all the way around our property. Our northern property line is along I44, and the traffice has increased so much that the soil actually now has a 'greasy' feel to it. Doesn't feel like country any more.

On the plus side ... we're less than 1/2 mile from 4-lane highway all the way into OKC. Makes for a really nice commute most days ... except in the winter when the river bridge ices over and there's and accident, then no one goes anywhere unless they detour through Tuttle to Mustang, or south to HWY 9 and thru Norman, neither of which is reasonable.
