Actually, it has never occurred to me to ask anyone, even my friends, what their preferences are. Some are obvious, the ones with domestic partners and the ones who make no secret of what they are looking for or that they enjoy cross-dressing or going out in drag, but I always thought it was their personal business and none of mine. That's not to say I don't know quite a few of both male and female gays, I do, but it's still their business. I also don't ask my hetero friends about their lifestyle preferences, either - and i know some of them have what could only be called non-tradtional lifestyles. It's not a matter of 'don't ask, don't tell' - it's a matter of respecting personal privacy.

I totally agree. I don't judge people on their race, religion, sexual orientation, etc. Just on their caracter .....

Or their lack of it.

I guess the OP didn't think the title, "Are there any character-friendly areas in Oklahoma?" would bring out the best and worst responses.

If you check on the past posts of the OP, I seriously doubt it was a question for future travels so much as a shot in the dark. Kind of like John1960's posts to initiate discussions.

As I have stated in the past, I know more than a few married men from small town communities who would never dare venture out of the closet. They have too much at stake. Their wives, kids, grandkids, careers, and standing in their churches could possibly be lost if they came out.

That is where homophobes are uninformed the most or they simply choose to wear blinders. They have no idea just how many people there are who are gay and really do keep quiet about it.

Sort of on topic but sort of off topic... My neighbors are gay (I live in DFW). They are probably the best neighbors I have ever had. No problems with gays here...

Yeah, in Stillwater I happened to once hear of an older married, prominent, local businessman who carried on a sexual relationship with a college boy in return to treating him to a car, clothing or whatever. I bet such relationships are among the most secretive things that go on in Stillwater. And in turn, pretty, but needy, college girls getting the sugar daddy treatment from local straight men, married, or not.

That happens pretty much anywhere there's a good-sized school. The problems come when one of the recipients gets greedy and threatens exposure - that can have some nasty repercussions.

I imagine that any unfriendliness towards gays in Oklahoma would stem from the large religious contingent. Well, let me tell you, I'd rather have a gay neighbor than a Baptist one. Seriously. At least the gay guys that lived on one side of us never sneered at me for working on a Sunday morning when I should be at church, even as they indulged in the services I offered (it was a restaurant, you pervs) on said Sunday morning. The baptists next door were the most judgmental PEOPLE I ever met and bad neighbors, to boot. Loud music and parties, and I have it on good authority that they DANCED [mod cut] in blatant rebellion of their religion.

The gay guys danced, too. At least THEY were good at it.

Oh, and any Baptists who aren't judgmental hypocritical PEOPLE should refrain from taking exception to this post. Not that I think any exist, but hey.

[mod cut] Edited to fit the standards of this forum
