Heya Rick. Do you doctor through the VA? I see that they have clinics now in Stratford, TX and in Liberal, KS. I used to live in Laverne, OK and had to drive all the way to the VA in OKC. I am looking at moving back to the OK or TX panhandle in two years. These clinics will make things much easier on me.

It's funny you should ask. I was just checking out the OKC VA with MSN maps. I do get all my medical care through the VA. It looks like a very large facility. Being right across the street from the OU medical center is a real bonus. I'm hoping to move out there this spring.

There is a VA clinic in Stratford, TX. My dad uses it, when he needs specialized treatment he goes to the hospital in Amarillo.

The Panhandle is great for raising livestock, not so much for trees.

K2000KID,

Guymon's population of around 14,000 is actually in an economic boom and doing quite well, especially compared to other states that are suffering this recession. Our unemployment rate is around 2.5% on average. Jobs are plentiful in several industries: Farming, Ranching, Construction, Pork Production, Wind Energy, Bio Fuels, Gas & Oil, Education, Medical Fields and more...all of which are above average paying jobs.

In contrast to what one of the previous responders said, Guymon's housing market is not falling. It has actually risen over the past 12 years since Seaboard arrived. Average homes back then were in the $60's and 70's, those same homes are now averaging in the 90's. We are however in a housing shortage and with nearly 250 jobs open in the Guymon area, we are in desparate need of rental properties or apartments. Even with the increased housing market, Guymon still boasts of a low cost of living and low crime rates that enchance quality of life.

As with any city that experiences rapid growth, the City and community are working daily to improve beautification, add parks, bring in new events, sporting activities and other activities that will give everyone the quality of life they expect in a city this size. Guymon is host to several major events that feature our great culture and heritage, including the Annual Pioneer Days PRCA Rodeo that brings in over 900 top PRCA contestants the 1st weekend of May, FreedomFest Bull Riding and Fireworks Celebration, Sunflower Art & Wine Festival, Guymon Fiesta, Tye Hinds Memorial MotoCross Race and so much more!

The people of Guymon are truly some of the nicest people I know, I moved here from Colorado Springs a number of years ago and stayed for the great people and quality of life. They would welcome anyone with open arms. We invite you to visit Guymon online at www.guymonok.org or in person anytime!

Hey, fellas, I found this thread on Guymon...I have a job in Guymon starting in a month, and I very much need to rent a place in a town nearby...Texhoma, for example, would be ideal.

I don't want a fancy place, but I would like a largish space that can be used as a workshop; my hobby is electronics, tube amps, and building stuff. I would also like a little land, I have a dog and would like to eventually get a horse...but the workshop area is the important thing.

Any tips you can give me on finding a place? Anyone renting is welcome to call or email me, just pm me and I'll send you my info offline.

best, charlie

PS: I have searched the web for house rentals/ranch rentals/land rentals in the Guymon area and surrounding towns, searched Craigslist too, came up with nuttin!! So your post that there are several houses for rent in Texhoma really caught my eye!!!!
