Me again- Soon I will have to pay COBRA at about $525 per month for medical/dental coverage. since there is no way I can afford to pay that much for very long, I was wondering if the State of Oklahoma had a program for those who need coverage, but can;t afford COBRA, and have been denied trying to buy it myself for pre-existing reasons. I swear for these health ins companies, being alive is a pre=exisiting condition worthy of denial I am in great health and physical condition, but due to colitis that has been cured as of 2003, all companies say no. Makes me wonder who DO they cover?
Anyways I know WI has a Badgercare program you pay quartely based on age, and deductible amount. It's not cheap, deductibles are $5K or more, but it's at least something. Does OK have something like this?
also what other websites should I check for my own HI coverage? I've just been going to the big companies wesites like BCBS, Humana, etc, but maybe there's a good website maybe e-surance? something like that?
Thanks again

There is something called Soonercare I believe. Also, there is an insurance program (at least in texas) where you can get insurance that is more or less like the Badgercare program where you have a high deductible but at least you are covered. I'll DM you the details.

Yes, there is Soonercare, but not sure it's for adults - at least for adults 18-65 or something like that. Usually for children under 18 and seniors. If you're an adult in the middle, you might be SOL. Not sure exactly how it works, but you also have to qualify under certain restrictions like income and all that.

Soonercare is aimed at children, but there are quite a few exceptions. It also includes what passes for Medicaid and Medicare supplement, based on specific conditions and income guidelines. Aged, blind, and disabled of any age, for instance, depending on other benefits, and whether or not they are employed. It's one of those programs that helps a lot of people while keeping an army of paperworkers busy. Not denigrating that little army of paperworkers, btw - if it hadn't been for a similar program in another state I'd be living under a bridge somewhere for the rest of my life while my SocSec check went directly to paying off DH's medical bills, and I'd be in debt for the next 70 or so years.

I recommend googling soonercare guidelines and see just what they are and what they include. I took a quick look, and now I feel downright wealthy [relatively speaking] because that's the first site I've seen that actually has the Federal poverty guidelines in it. I can't imagine anyone anywhere actually living on that.
