Some VERY interesting reading in the volumes that are cataloged on the following website. I read a very detailed account of a man that told of his trek through part of the Winding Stair and Kiamichi Mountains that had to be somewhere in the late 1800s. These volumes contain the origins of county names, first post offices in Oklahoma (Guertie [Gerty] was one of them), court records, and just about anything else that you might be curious about. There are 80 volumes in all, and they are searchable. The volumes start in 1923, but the stories and records within them go back into the early to mid 1800s. Have a look!

And the Oklahoma State Digital Library has volumes upon volumes of periodicals and magazines, including every issue of "Oklahoma Today" since 1950.

Very interesting- i would try seeking out the largest library in the state for more info(OU). Also a visit to the actual Oklahoma Historical Society museum in oklahoma city might be of interest-okhistory.org. Capitol building complex (most complicated architecture encountered in oklahoma)encompasses the new structure and is a wonderful contrast to its modern architecture. Maybe stay at the 5 star Skirvin/see a NBA game and call it a day.
