But I agree with you, GP. There's nothing wrong in comparing the size or population or unemployment rate of two cities if you're deciding where you'd like to live, but beyond that, it generally promotes anomosity. Have you ever seen some of the threads in other states? How LONG and heated are some of those, "Dallas/Houston Smackdown" threads? (Only using that as an example)
Oh Sure... cop out on us why don't you

Default I like learning about the pros and cons of different areas

If a town has a fine antique store, or is lacking an emergency on call vet, I'd like to know that before visiting let along moving there. Just like there are certain features of a house (ranch, attached garage , basement) that might be very important to a new resident, there are city features that might be very important as well.

That's very true, but it's not really in the same category as 'which city is better, city A or city B' - neither is better, they all have good things and not so good things about them. When you want to know about specific things that concern you, you should ask about those things specifically. That way you may actually find out what you want to know without getting bogged down under a load of "I think city A is wonderful" vs "I wouldn't live anywhere else besides city B." It all depends on what you want to know, see, do, etc, and what is important to you. What you find important won't necessarily be important to those who reply, otherwise.

Default Gotcha

OK, I think I understand your point. Even if a town was not my fave, it IS someone else current or former hometown. Even IF I did think one was vastly superior to another, I'd just favor one for myself over another.

Most of the time, I try not to be a meannie!

And it's so much fun nailing someone's hide to the wall if they've earned it, especially if you make a point of being polite the rest of the time!
