I know of one dunkin in OKC, none in Tulsa (Tulsa's only REAL shortcoming). Just how green do you want it, how tired of city/suburbs are you?

I live on a little less than 10 acres, about an hour out of Tulsa, hour and a half out of OKC, half an our out of Stillwater, and five hours out of Dallas. Looking out into the front yard I can watch my cows eat grass (it's green), the goat and sheep eating weeks (they are green too), the chickens scratching in the dirt (it's mostly brown and red), and the dogs sleeping under the trees (they are brown and green both). this winter it will all turn gray and tan, except for the day or two it turns white, then it will be green again. I don't know what sort of quality of life you are thinking of, but in the past 6 months, we've seen David Allen Coe, Reba and Kelly live, I am not going to see Rod Stewart live, I will be going to a PBR at the BOK Center, went to two gun shows, shot clay pigeons in my back yard, visited the last standing soddy built by an 1883 homesteader, had a fair steak at a 62 year old steak house, had chili at a 100 year old chili house, and visited two destination resort casinos. I don't do movies, although there are a lot around, I do do yard sales of which there are just too many, and I haven't visited either of Tulsa's world class museums recently. I go to several religious events a year, a couple of church services, a stomp dance or two and the occasional pow-wow.

I must confess though, we don't have much in the way of city type entertainment.....we don't do gay day parades, we don't take turns mugging people, we don't engage in road rage (too many people carry guns.......lots of guns makes most people polite).......hmmmmmm any sterotypes I've missed?

Oh yeah....if you move down here, you will have to get a pick up truck and dog (preferably a border collie) to ride in the back and learn to enjoy copenhagen (although, being a girl, you can get away with Grizzly)..........anyhow, come on down...........you'll most likely like it here..........

And you're not into miniature horses? Recently, during a drive on hiway 33 west to I-35 I saw several cute little herds of miniature horses. I was wondering if raising miniature horses was the latest rage with you rural people. I think I saw some miniature goats, too.

If the cost of living is cheap enough then the lower salary will balance it out.

More important is the quality of life. I'm tired of the city, I live in the suburbs and there just isn't enough green, or nature for me here. So, quality of life folks? Tell me about quality of life in OK City....

Seriously, though, any thoughts on the subject are much appreciated.

Thanks.
Trinitee, It really depends on YOUR definition of "Quality of Life"... From what I have seen teacher salaries in OK run about 35,000 to 45,000 depending on location and experience. That is a VERY do-able income here if you don't have a mountain of debt already.

OKC does have all of the amenities that most other big cities offer, as well as all of the nature and "green" you could want within a 50 mile radius.

Take a peek at some of the Photo threads and you will see what I mean.

I already know that there are the same things to do there as in every city, but....is there a Dunkin Donuts?? (lol)

Seriously, though, any thoughts on the subject are much appreciated.

I've been wondering why there wasn't a Dunkin Donuts in Duncan, OK.

Smile quality of life

Hi All:

Thanks so much for you input. My idea of quality of life is a less harried, less hurried, less "corporate money making" way of life. I'm tired of everyone in NY rushing to get nowhere lol. More community oriented people rather than everyone living in their own bubble. We don't even have block parties anymore. For those of you who don't know what that is, a collection is taken up along a single street (with houses on both sides of the street), a date is set, the street is closed off and it is just one big barbecue party that the whole block participates in with each other.

Yes, the 35,000-45,000 range sounds doable with the lower cost of living out there.

I think you'll do fine in Oklahoma. It sounds like the kind of place for which you are searching; slower pace of life and more laid back.

Good luck to you!
