Well, the salary for a city police officer here in Holdenville (pop. 5K) is pretty low. And I mean LOW. I have met several who left the city PD who said they were making like $6.50/hour.

As for what it is like in Rattan, OK, I have no idea. I do know it is close to Antlers, which I heard has a wild side to it. But that is just heresay, and I have never lived in Antlers, so I can't really say.

$6.50 an hour as a cop!? Is this a joke?
I use to make $15.00 an hour with beni's as a security guard. OMG! I'm afraid if they offered me that I would have to tell them to pound sand. A wopper flopper at Burger King makes more money that that here in the Buckeye state.

The thing about racism in Oklahoma is this... Each person carries their own weight. If people think someone is a lazy no-good slouch, then they will likely face racism more than if a person is a hard working person who minds their own business.

And the primary difference IMO is in Oklahoma, almost every town or community has anywhere from 15% to 25% Native American populations. Of course there are exceptions, but the good thing about that is people here are used to being around different cultures.

Also, IMO the racism in Oklahoma has improved dramatically since the early 1970's. Having said that, there are STILL individuals who cling on to their perceived notions of racial superiority/inferiority.

That is a long winded post saying you can't say a certain small town is racist, because you will always meet people who are NOT racist in that town.

I have sent out a few emails asking about Rattan and will get back to tomorrow via DM.

Hang on... I DM'd you with the phone numbers to the town of Rattan, the PD and one of the council members. Have you tried to contact ANY of those people?

I will call them tomorrow and ask, "Are ya'll racist?!" I betcha 10 to 1 the police chief makes <$21K/year and is the ONLY PD in town.

Any takers?

A town with a population of 242. Wow. That is small. GP has more chickens and goats than that in the back 40.
