And like you said, DISH or DirecTV will stop working during severe rainfalls. At least, ours does.

MK, sorry to hear about that wreck your mom was in, hope she was okay.
My dish has only quit working entirely once, but it gets so broken up when we have a storm come near you can tell that its on the way. Cable usually died first (could be just that they have an ancient cable system).

I know what Born to Fly means about being suprisied. I've kept on the tv and located pets before, but this time was sanding the floor in my room (which is ALMOST done, yeaaaaaa!!!!!!!) and noticed the trees were really whipping. Then came out to discover the front door was open, (blown in and did it a second time, jury rigged door, ugh) and one dog was mia. Took out screens and called and she returned, but didn't even notice the sirens at first.

Whats kinda funny is that I've experienced 70 mph santa ana winds and it shouldn't have frazzled me so much... just that suprise and missing dog stuff. And mr.door. Someone cut an inch off the side of a metal door to get it to fit in the slightly too small door jam. A matter to be dealt with...

Doncha love remodels bought in progress?

In Ca. the Santa Anta's didn't have as much to blow around as the winds do her. The palm trees swayed but never broke and the trees in OK, are much higher than they are in Ca.
Beside, we're in the middle of tornado alley

Try one that is supposed to be done, but after awhile you discover it has some substantial defects that need attention.

FWIW, my house is the only one I've ever seen where the walls were painted, and then spackled.
