Is Norman very windy a lot of the time. I note on City data and other weather sites, that the average wind speeds appear to be greater than our home town of Chicago. Is this true?

True. Oklahoma is much more windy than the "windy city."

"Where the wind comes sweeping down the plains" isn't a falsehood.

It's windy pretty much all the time everywhere in OK. But it's not sharp and cold like the wind off Lake Michigan.

What's funny is many cities are windier than Chicago, basically anywhere west of Chicago and east of the Rockies. The term "Windy City" came about when there weren't many cities to the west of Chicago.

I think "windy city" refers to the politicians in Chicago...

It gets even windier during football season.... WAY windier... a hundred hot air balloons could not even produce as much hot air.

Yes, but somehow that got diverted to refer to the weather. Although people still may refer to the politicians that way, I'm not sure really.
