My daughter is trying to find the college right for her. Does anyone want to give their opinions on which college would be best and why? She's interested in accounting, dance instruction, drumline, english, and literature. I can read pamphlets and visit websites but nothing is like someones own personal opinion.

My opinion is a person should attend a local community college for the first year or two years, because most kids change their major 2.3 times. Second, it will enable her to take those basic classes in an environment where she can get help easier.

At some universities, the class size can be around 400-900 students in a lecture hall. *for some classes, obviously not all are that size.

I think the decision will be based on the student and on your wallet. If money is no problem or she is getting full scholarships, let her go to a Divishion IA major university and live in a dorm. She'll make more friends that way.

Either way, college is a great experience, at least it was for me.

Your location shows to be in Sequoyah county so if that is correct, I would go visit NSU at Tahlequah first. Contact the Admissions office and set up a day/time to go and visit with one of the staff so she can get an idea of what NSU has to offer. Take a copy of her H.S. Transcript and ACT scores if she has those already. Do the same with any other college/university she may be interested in attending. Problem is, time is short if she plans on entering this fall semester so she needs to get on the road and do some serious searching fast. Good luck!

I can't offer advice on which schools in OK because I don't live there but I agree with Redbird, start with a community college and warn your kids about credit card. I'm speaking from personal experiences, those credit card people are EVERY WHERE, it only takes one to dig yourself into debt, and yeah, I've changed my major about four times before finding the right one.

My daughter who is a senior in high school this year will be going to OCCC next year. I agree with RB. A community college is definitely the way to go. Most of my friends' kids who went to a university right from high school either failed their first year or came home on their own in the middle of the semester. A lot of kids aren't ready for the demands and freedom of a university at age 18.

OU's dance program is top 10 in the country. It may be one of the strongest programs they have on campus.

Default Carl Albert State Collage

My wife decided to go back to collage for her teaching degree. She chose Carl Albert State Collage in Poteau ok to do her basics and then transfer to finish her degree. Poteau is a safe area and the rents are affordable. Might be worth checking out.
