First of all, if this survey had been conducted in any other state, it would have come back with similar results.

Moderator cut: Personal attack removed I think this thread should be voted "most useless".

I'm a conservative and only got two or three wrong on that 100 question test. One of them was knowing that form N-400 was the proper application for citizenship form. In fairness, I once taught History and Civics so I should do well on such a test. In any case my reply to you would be what makes you think any group is particularly smart when it comes to this type of subject matter? Moderator cut: sentence removed

Goodpasture's post was firmly tongue in cheek.

Actually the OP and I discussed this post back channel PRIOR to the thread being started. I found the article and the results interesting and thought it might make a good topic of conversation considering how many of us are transplants from other areas.

As an addendum... the article linked to was updated AFTER the OP posted it. (And I read it)

The original article didn't contain the link to the source of the survey: September 2009 Volume 16 Number 9 - Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs (http://www.ocpathink.org/publications/perspective-archives/september-2009-volume-16-number-9/?module=perspective&id=2321 - broken link)

I really question their method of gathering information...

Quote:
In Oklahoma, the telephone surveyors called a sample of 1,000 public high-school students...
Seems unlikely to me that they could conclusively verify WHO they were talking to on the phone. If the survey had been given on location AT a school, I'd have a little more faith in the results.

I also doubt the validity of that "survey." Since this was posted, I have asked every one of my daughter's friends I've run across (including at the MHS football game Friday night), and 100% of them knew who the first president of the US was, and in fact looked at me in a rather peculiar way when I asked the question -- sort of like -- why ask me such a "duh" question?

I think the "teenager stupid" factor has not come into discussion. Sometimes Bif, Troy, and Lumpy just answer the most obvious question with a wrong answer to be stupid. Then gigglesnort about it later. Dude...did you see that stupid question about who is George Washington? I know! How DUMB! I put down he was the leader in a boy band! etc etc.

Kids nowadays are not as stupid as they act.
